Smetterlinge was produced for 'The Lockdown Series’ — an online exhibition put on with the aim of exploring the cognitive dissonance felt by many creatives caused to the overwhelming pressure to make and be productive over this time while simultaneously dealing with the unprecedented feelings and concerns that came with the global pandemic.

Each artist was interviewed about their experience of self-isolation, the audio of which was then distributed amongst the participating artists. Each participant was asked to create a work in response to the sound bite they received. There was no limit on medium, other than that the work would need to be displayed digitally.

Smetterlinge is a continuous loop video exploring the time blindness and hyper-awareness of my bodily mechanics as I sat in my window staring out at the hotel and apartment building across from me. One moment melted into the next. I became obsessed with my blinking. Every time my eyelids slid down I became hyper-aware of how the world just seemed to melt into darkness. How it unfolded again exactly but not quite entirely unlike it was before, but at the same time I began to lose track. Time would fluctuate sometimes a blink would be a fraction of a second, sometimes an hour, sometimes a week.

*Please allow this video to loop*
